I’ve mentioned before that this blog has become a little side business and makes some extra money for our family each month through the advertising. Given that it’s officially a business, there are a number of things I have to do to keep it running and try to grow my online brand.
I’ve found it’s best to have a daily and a weekly task list. Of course I’m not always able to follow my lists 100% of the time. Again, this is a side business and life and my day job take priority. Anyway, I thought it would be helpful to share some of the daily tips I use to help grow my online brand for those of you interested in starting your own website, blog or other online business. Perhaps these will help you!
Read Articles
Follow blogs in your niche and pick a few articles to read each day. This is a great thing to do because it helps you learn more and also see what tips others are sharing. You can also follow major media sites. For me, I follow a lot of financial media websites that produce massive amounts of content each day. I also make it a point to follow financial brands.
Share Articles
After reading articles, I share the ones I like to my primary social networks. Sharing articles helps me add value and provide readers helpful tips. It’s also a great way to meet other bloggers and online media in that everyone likes to get their content shared. Sharing also means that I share content I’ve published.
Create Content
I also try to produce content on a daily basis. It doesn’t mean I’ll publish content everyday, but I try to capture some ideas or draft an article. Most online businesses have blogs these days. I think getting into the habit of writing or curating content each day is a great way to keep your customers or readers engaged.
Engage with Readers or Customers
If someone takes the time to comment on my blog, I definitely try to respond to them the same day. I wish I could say the same about email, but I sometimes I have hard time staying on top of it and often batch process emails once per week. It takes effort and time for someone to comment so I want to make sure I acknowledge them as soon as possible.
Connect with Other Businesses and Websites
Finally, I try to set a goal to engage on another blogs or website a few times per day. This could also mean commenting on a Facebook page. I must admit this is a goal of mine, but I’m not very good at doing it consistently. However, I think it’s a great goal to comment and add value just a few times per day. If you do it consistently you’ll be getting your name out there at least 10 times per week.
Overall, I find doing just a little bit everyday can make a difference in growing your online brand. Building an online business isn’t easy and it takes a lot of work. But I believe it’s a long run project and it can’t be accomplished over night. It’s the steady and consistent work that pays off.
I’m sure many of you who have an online business have a daily routine. So, what do you do to grow your brand and business each day?
