A few weeks ago I did a little bit of research to discover and share some of the ways people can make money on Facebook. My wife actually gave me the idea because she’s been selling children’s clothes on Facebook and has had a lot of success. Anyway, there was some interest in the post from the comments so I thought I’d write a follow up post and share about some of the Facebook applications I’m finding which allow you to buy and sell items.
As an aside, I think these new ways of making extra money are exciting. Many people are struggling to find the extra money to pay for gasoline, or pay off credit cards. With a little bit of creativity and work, you can create your own little side business. I suggest selling things around the house you no longer use first. Then, move to the next level by buying items to resell. A lot of people make a living doing this on eBay. Why don’t you try it on Facebook?
I’ve listed the applications that seem to be most popular, or are appealing. What this post doesn’t cover are what seem to be many Facebook pages which have turned into a market of their own. For example, my wife uses Nexty to sell her items. Finding these markets may require a little more research on my part.
Marketplace – 3.2 million users. Marketplace is by far the most popular! The application lets you sell and giveaway items just like you would on Craigslist or eBay. There are 5 categories: Apartments and Rentals, Housing, Items for Sale, Jobs and Vehicles.
Storefront Social – Another popular application with over 48,000 users! Storefront Social lets you import online items from your website into Facebook. It was created by entrepreneurs who were interested in getting their items into Facebook to offer them in another marketplace.
YardSellr – Over 41,000 users. This application will let you sell anything for free. Overall, it looks easy to use. Simply add your item via the YardSellr website and connect with Facebook to display your item for sell and install the app. Yes, you add your items via their website and then they appear in Facebook.
Show & Sell – Over 29,000 users. You can add this mini store to your Facebook page to ramp up sells. This particular application also looks to link potential buyers to your online store. I like this because you can host your store on your Facebook page.
eBay – There are too many Facebook eBay applications to mention, but many of them will allow you to integrate what you’re selling on eBay into Facebook so your friends can see what you’ve listed. The eBay Selling Feed application seems to be quite popular with over 37,000 users. It enables eBay registered sellers to share the items that they are listing on eBay in their Facebook feed with friends.
Now for a few of the less popular applications, but they look promising…
Lemonade Stand – 266 users. This application (currently undergoing an upgrade) let’s you choose from a number of items and add to a widget on your profile. If an item sells, you make a commission.
Netcarnation Marketplace – 531 users. This store also lets you integrate your existing online store with Facebook. You can promote items you have on your online store within Facebook and then send people back to your store when they’re ready to make a purchase. Products are automatically added to Facebook when you add them to your online storefront and you can promote them on Twitter, Facebook and Google Buzz.
Garage Sale – 220 users. How about having a garage sale, but in your Facebook neighborhood? The Garage sale application let’s you sell anything on your personal profile. When an item is purchased Garage Sale charges a 5% commission and then deposits the money in your checking or PayPal account.
e3Buy- 85 users. This app lets you buy or sell anything. It’s unique in that it provides a cash back bonus to the winning bidder. Everytime the bid increase, e3Buy adds a little more to the cash back bones. Pretty cool!
Shopit – 395 users. This application also lets you set up your own shop on your profile and tell your friends about it. You can syndicate your catalog to any website, blog and social network using the store widget. Read more on the Shopit website.
What do you think about all these Facebook applications you can use to make money on Facebook? Have you ever used one? If so, please share your experience with us in the comments.
