Free Fun Things to Do

I love “free and fun” as they are a wonderful combination!  What are some free fun things to do?  There are of course the traditional things like take a walk, enjoy a nice bike ride, or even going to the state park, but what are some things that we may not typically think of?

Go to the Park

Free Fun Things to DoI enjoy going to the park, packing a picnic, and enjoying a few games as a family.  You can pack a board game, some cards, or even put in the croquet set!  But how about also taking in a free class at the nature center?  You may not realize that your local city and state parks often offer free classes on identifying animals and other critters or even fishing or star gazing.

Set Up a Swap Shop

How about setting up a “swap shop” with some friends?  You clean out your closet for items that you no longer want or need, and then you and your friends can “shop” at each other’s shops and pay by swapping something.  This is free, gets you some great new stuff, and even gets in some shopping time.  I won’t even tell you that you managed to get some chore work done by cleaning out the closet.

Go to the Library

While we might think of the library for researching or studying, how often do you think of the library as fun?  Personally, I love nothing more than being able to have the time to browse the new books, check out my favorite sections, dig through the newspapers and magazines, and even try out a few of their comfy chairs.  It’s like hanging out with an old friend, and it’s free!

Spend Time with a Friend

Have a friend over to enjoy some good heart to heart conversation.  Enjoy a nice cup of tea or coffee with them.  And you’ll soon find yourself relaxed.

Family Water Day

Have a water day!  This is when you get out that bag of balloons stuck back in the drawer, the sprinkler, and the hose.  Create as many water activities for your family and enjoy the laughter, sun, and fun!  Hey, you might even decide to have a race to see who can clean their part of the car and have a sponge fight while you are at it.

Watch a Movie

And finally don’t forget about curling up on the couch with your favorite movie, blanket, and some popcorn.  This is a great way to relax, laugh, or even cry.  It can especially be a good couple time.

What are some free fun things to do you enjoy?

We go to the zoo. While this isn’t technically ‘free’ because we do purchase an annual pass, once we purchase and have the pass, we can go as often as we want at no charge. Pack a lunch and we have a full day of walking around and relaxing with the kids, plus they love to see new things every time. A bonus is that in our case, the annual pass is considered a charitable donation, so we get to write it off on our taxes :)

When our children were younger, we had a game night. We also like to go to the beach during the winter, no crowds and it is still beautiful.

I know the need of free and fun all too well. :) I love being outdoors so not only do I go to the park, but I like to hike as well. Movies are great too, especially when you get them from the library (instead of redbox or movie rental store).
