According to a recent issue of Fast Company Magazine, Facebook now has 610,736,920 member profiles which is one for every 11 people on the planet. Most of the people I know (and probably you) are on Facebook. I must admit, however, I’m a bit of a late adopter and user when it comes to the largest online social network in the world. In fact, it wasn’t until recently that I found out you can make money with Facebook. There are a lot of things you can do on Facebook besides reconnecting with family and friends!
So, let’s talk about personal finance and money management as it relates to Facebook. Can someone actually learn money management tips on Facebook? Well, where there is a community of like-minded people and discussion, you’ll find the opportunity to learn from others.
Here are some Facebook Pages you might“Like” if you’re looking to pick up on money management tips and interact with others doing the same.
LIKE Dave Ramsey – You don’t want to miss the Dave Ramsey Page with over 790,000 “Likes.” Wow, that’s sort of an online city, isn’t it? There are special promotions, posts about the show and more on the Dave Ramsey Page. I recently discovered a deal to purchase three of Dave’s books for just $10 each. And recently, they announced that President Obama appointed Dave Ramsey as Head of the Governmental Baby Steps Council to attack the national debt – an April Fools Day Joke. But, he’d get my vote!
LIKE Perkstreet Financial – Visit the Perkstreet Financial Page and you’ll find all the blog posts, customer questions and TONS of discussions about personal finance. For instance, one community member was looking for some ideas for good household budgeting software. What did he receive in terms of advice? Twenty-six comments with different thoughts and ideas from PerkStreet community members! Recently, PerkStreet asked for thoughts on credit and credit scores and received 33 responses! Talk about an easy way to get some money management guidance.
LIKE Mint.com – Mint.com is probably the most popular personal finance software on the web today and you’ll definitely find community on Facebook with over 90,000 “Likes” for their Page. Mint isn’t afraid to interact with people as they often submit questions to the community. For example, they recently asked people to submit their questions about relationships and finances to an author on the subject interested in responding to a few of them.
LIKE LearnVest – Ladies, I recently came across LearnVest which is a personal finance site for women. You can pick up on style and beauty tips when you’re on a budget and more. I recently watched a video with founder Alexa von Tobel on The Gayle King Show discussing tricky money situations and how to navigate them. Good stuff!
LIKE Suze Orman – Popular author Suze Orman also has a Facebook Page with over 42,000 fans. There seems to be more buzz and status updates from the followers on this Page than from Suze and her staff. Nonetheless, you’ll find quite a few conversations about saving money. You can read a free chapter from her book, The Money Class by liking her Page.
LIKE One Money Design – Finally, I decided to start posting some of the content I write at my blog, One Money Design, on Facebook along with other discussion topics. I recently asked if anyone had any tips for starting a budget. One response I liked a lot recommended making room for fun by giving yourself an allowance for blow money each month. I’m proud to say we almost have 400 “Likes.” Nothing like Dave Ramsey’s 790,000, but hey, I’m thankful for our the “Likes” we have!
