Get Rich Slowly Video Contest: Save Money Commuting to Work!

I submitted a last minute entry this week to the Get Rich Slowly video contest.  Final submissions were due 4/15 and I submitted mine the morning of 4/15.  Whew…just in time!

The contest is for those who want to share personal finance tips or a financial story.  I chose to submit financial tips and decided to share a few ideas for saving money when commuting to work.

I wish I would have planned further in advance and made my entry more polished.  I’ve just been crazy busy lately.  But, I think the quick production made it kind of funny.  My wife and I watched it last night and thought it was hilarious in that I was half asleep (I shot the video on my way to work), drinking my coffee, etc.

Anyway, I enjoy creating practical financial tip videos.  Generally, it doesn’t take too much time for me to produce these videos and it’s a great way, in my opinion, to provide practical financial tips.  I hope you enjoy them too.

So, watch the video and learn about my 3 tips to saving money while commuting to work:  avoid paying tolls, take your own lunch, make your own coffee and take public transportation.

What do you think about these 3 tips?  What ideas do you have to save money while commuting to work?

Great ideas, I generally walk places to save money. I walk about and two hour each day to and from work. Saves me $5.20 a day and $26.00 a week. It’s a little extreme but I enjoy the exercise and the extra money.
    Thanks for the ideas!

Matt, great idea. I suppose walking is a great way to save money (and get exercise) if you live in an area where you have a lot of things close to you. Great tip!

I live in the sticks (no tollways or public transportation) but I am all about packing my own lunch and making my own coffee. These two tips probably save $10 a day! Good advice!

Joe, thanks!. Some days I think about living in the sticks. Ah, the simple life of no commuting, etc. My commute takes me about an hour each way. Public transportation and some of my tips save me big bucks and time!

We gave up the church of St. Arbucks a year or two ago. Now we brew coffee at home in the morning to save dough. My wife is also pretty diligent about packing her own lunch instead of going out to eat.

Now I know we live in the same general area, but we have a longer trip down the tollway into Dallas than you do. I’d guess it would take 20-30 minutes longer if we didn’t use the Tollway. I think if my wife took service roads instead, she’d hang herself or go on a murderous rampage! So we suck it up and practically fund the North Texas toll roads by ourselves. Maybe that’s an experiment we can try in the near future..

    Great video!

Jason, FYI – I commute to downtown from our area. I drive half – way and catch a bus. Would be happy to share more about my commute and how I save money.
