Do you want to be more thoughtful in your giving this year? If so, why not find a gift that lasts? We’ve all had that gift that ends up in a dresser drawer, garage or other area of the house that never get used. While it’s appreciated it just didn’t turn out to be that useful, or entertaining.
Kiplinger recently published 15 gifts that keep on giving. Overally, there are some pretty good gift ideas on the list. You might consider one of them if you want to be more thoughtful in your giving this year.
Here are some of my favorites and the reasons why:

Battery Charger
The article says there are more than three billion single-use batteries are sold every year. A battery charger insures you never run out of batteries and stay environmentally friendly. I can tell you from experience this is a great money saver and helps keep the environment friendly!
Charitable Donation
Pick a favorite charity or non profit and give in the name of your gift recipient. Instead of buying gifts for my brother and sister – in – law this year, we choose to sponsor a child via Angel Tree. If you’re looking to pick a great area to donate, consider Crown Financial Ministries and their mission to help equip people to learn and teach Biblical financial principles. [I recommend Crown because of my belief in their ministry and I don't get paid for this endorsement]
Movie Rentals
Do you want to give something fun to someone that will make for an entertaining gift? You could think about giving movie rental gift cards or even a monthly subscription to Blockbuster or Netflix for a year. I have to vote movie rentals as one of the best ways to entertain the family for a cheap price! We use the Blockbuster Total Access.
AAA Membership
The AAA membership provides peace of mind on the road and with towing, gas and tire change services. It also provides a number of discounts for travel and retail. We are looking at AAA because we make a lot of road trips to visit family throughout the year.
Savings
The article wisely recommends opening a 529 plan for a youngster or even a Roth IRA for a recent graduate. Sometimes taking the first step is the hardest part in saving for the future. So, consider taking that step for your loved one or friend.
