Thanks to the mortgage debacle and other forms of "greed", our banks are no longer stable, if they ever were in the first place. Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal - Matthew 6:19-20 In my view there is no place on earth where your money is safe.

Good customer service is also important to consider. It sounds like you had developed some good relationships at your current bank.
