One of the best ways to get out of debt is to generate some extra income. Sometimes it’s hard to pinch another penny and cutting out major expenses is tough too. For example, most people don’t want to sell their house unless it’s just too big of a payment to handle each month (typically more than 25% of gross income).
Certainly, you can take on an extra job such as delivering pizza’s, working in retail or even even fast food to generate extra money. But, it’s also nice to still be in control of your own time. And you certainly want to be able to make money as quickly as possible, otherwise, you’re doing all this extra work indefinitely. Seriously, who wants to be on a plan to pay off debt over the next 10 years?
Here are a few quick money making ideas to consider:
Make Money Online
You can use sites like eBay or Craig’s List to sell some of your unwanted items. Before you know it, you’ve made a nice stream of side income and have also gotten rid of a lot of junk you no longer want in your house.
You can also set up your own website, or blog, but I’ll tell you straight up that this is a lot of work and it does take time to generate income online. However, one of the best (and quickest) ways I’ve found to make money online is to do freelance writing for other blogs. If you enjoy writing about a particular subject you can make money starting at $10 per article to more than $50.
The great thing about making money online is you have the convenience of working from your home!
Have a Garage Sale
If you don’t want to go the online route and you want to clean out a bunch of stuff in your house, a garage sale can be a great idea. Just remember, you need to set bargain prices on your item, otherwise, people will lose interest. You can even sell clothing items in bundles and consider giving away less valuable things for free as incentive to make purchases. It realy doesn’t matter the time of the year. People love to go to garage sales.
Sale to Consignment Stores
My wife has become quite an expert at cleaning out old clothes and selling them to consignment. What she can’t sell she gives away. But selling to consignment allows her to make some extra pocket money and sometimes use it to replenish the kids closet with nicely used clothes.
Other Quick Money Making Ideas
Evaluate your skills and think about what you’re good at doing. Even better, think about what you enjoy doing! Here are a number of quick money making ideas that can be services to people around your neighborhood.
- Handy man work fixing things around the house.
- Tutoring children.
- Baby sitting.
- Dog walking.
- Raking leaves and winterizing yards this fall with proper fertilizer.
- Hanging Christmas lights
- Shopping services.
- Helping the elderly with Christmas decorations inside the house.
Just keep in mind most money making ideas require some work and effort. The money doesn’t just show up at your front door. Hopefully, these ideas have sparked some creative thought. If so, plan your way first. Sit down with some paper and pencil and list the tasks you would have to take to get one of these ideas moving. Then, start from the top and take action. Before you know it, you’ll be making a little extra money to help pay off debt, or increase your emergency savings fund.
