Today is a much needed announcement post about the summer schedule for me and the OMD writing team. Let me share a little about what’s been going on as you may have noticed a slow down in the articles recently…
The beginning of this year started off great. As a blog owner you’re always excited when Google sends lots of traffic your way and readers engage in the content. The traffic and advertising revenue helps pay the bills which includes the great writing team we have here. Unfortunately and fortunately Google has made a lot of changes in their search algorithms this year. The fortunate part is these changes are focused on improving search results for all of us and eliminating spammy sites. The unfortunate part is for some reason the changes significantly decreased Google traffic to One Money Design. With a decrease in traffic and ad revenue it’s caused me to have to cut back on articles from the writing team in the past month.
But, change isn’t necessarily always bad! Over this past weekend I had one of those aha moments that I thought I would share with you today. This year marks 3 years of blogging at One Money Design. When I’m not writing articles, I’m editing, social media marketing and so on. I love it. It’s grown from a passion about personal finance and a new passion for running a blog, website and web entrepreneurship. All this has kept me going late at night (and early mornings) as I do this work after my day job and family time.
If I’m having to cut back on articles from the writing team, I thought that it might make sense for me to slow down as well. After all, it’s summertime and there are long days ahead for playing with the kids at the park and just relaxing! I don’t think I could ever stop blogging. As I said, I’m truly passionate about blogging and the topics we have here. But, we all need a break and I think I’m ready for one too.
So, what does that mean for One Money Design? Starting this week I’ve decided to cut back on my blogging. You’ll see some articles here and there from the writing team and several getting posted in early July that are in the queue. However, I’m personally going to slow down here for the next 3 months, enjoy summer and perhaps work on another project I have in mind (more on that later). This may mean one post per week or no posts some week. Come the end of September I’m going to reevaluate traffic and the posting schedule for the fall and make another announcement at that time. This is truly a relief for me as I’m looking forward to the summer and getting some extra rest.
What do you think? Are you slowing down this summer?
Oh, and here are a few blog carnivals I recently participated in – Personal Finance, Totally Money, Christian Carnival.
