Last year I participated in The 10 Day Give challenge which was a great experience! So, I thought I would write an announcement post and let you know how it works.
Bob from ChristianPF.com created the challenge to help people spend time to focus and think of others versus themselves over this 1o day period. It’s an opportunity to pay attention to the needs of those around us versus our own busy agendas.
There are many people that pass in and out of our lives each day that may need help, a friend to listen, or just some words of encouragement. Our actions and time can make a difference for these people, yet we often miss the opportunity. Well, the 10 Day Give can help establish a habit of giving and selfless thinking that can bless others as well as provide blessings in your own life.
I received an email from Bob this week highlighting some of the benefits of the challenge. Here’s what Bob had to say:
- The satisfaction of seeing a little effort on your part yield a lot of joy in the lives of others.
- The assurance that what you sow you will reap (2 Cor 9:6)
- You will be entered to win random giveaways (iPods, Amazon.com Giftcards, etc)
- You will get to have your name/website/shoe size or whatever you want proudly displayed on the 10 Day Give Homepage for all the world to see.
Giving Ideas
There are many ways to give and help others and they don’t have to involve a lot of time or money. Little acts of giving go a long way!
As the 10 Day Give approaches, I thought I would list just 10 simple ideas to consider:
- Mow your neighbors yard.
- Take a friend to lunch.
- Buy someone a cup of coffee in line behind you.
- Buy a homeless person lunch.
- Give of your time to a local ministry.
- Watch the kids of a friend or family member as they have a date with their spouse.
- Offer to fetch someone a cup of coffee at work.
- Ask someone if you can simply help them in some way.
- Buy someones dinner anonymously
- Stop, take a moment and spend a few minute of your day to listen and show someone you care.
Hopefully, you get the idea. The 10 Day Give is about having a big heart no matter how you give. You can give as much or little as you want, but remember, giving is focusing on others’ versus ourselves.
Scriptures about Giving
I believe the Bible provides the best guidance for giving. So I thought I would provide a few of my favorite scriptures about giving:
In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ (Acts 20:35)
Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. (2 Corinthians 9:6)
Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. (2 Corinthians 9:7-8)
But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. (Matthew 6:20)
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Luke 12:34)
And now, brothers, we want you to know about the grace that God has given the Macedonian churches. Out of the most severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the saints. And they did not do as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us in keeping with God’s will. (2 Corinthians 8:1-5)
