We finally had a touch of cooler weather this week in the Dallas Metroplex. Throwing on a sweatshirt and considering turning on the heat prompted me to think about ways we can experience cheaper electricity bills this winter.
There’s a lot of good advice out there to save money and cut the cost of your winter electricity bills.
Some good tips include:
- Turning down your thermostat by 1 degree to save as much as 10% on your bill!
-
Keep draughts out and heat in by fitting draught-proofing seals to doors and windows!
- And my favorite…switch off lights when they aren’t needed and use energy saving light bulbs.
Speaking of energy saving light bulbs, you can definitely save some money by changing your lighting too! Check out these tips:
- Install dimmers to cut the amount of electricity you’re using.
- You can also replace incandescent bulbs with compact flourescent light bulbs to extend the life of your bulbs while saving money! Did you know one CFL can save you $30 over the lifetime of the bulb and cut energy consumption by 75%? I had no idea!
While the CFL’s cost more initially (you might have to budget a little extra for them one month) the savings reallly makes a case for upgrading to them.
What do you think about these tips for cheaper electricity bills?
