Obviously, people have different definitions of need so we have to be careful. The best way to unpack this is to look at behaviors because the behaviors are typically representative of what is on our hearts. More deeply, are those behaviors focused on us, or glorifying God? Everyone has a responsibility to be faithful stewards with God's resources which includes money. We must recognize God as the owner and understand our responsibilities as the managers/stewards. (Psalms 24:1 and 1 Corinthians 4: 1-2). Personally, it would be difficult for me to help a beloved family member of mine if they weren't willing to work towards manage money according to God's purposes. I don't know everything about your situation but this is how I would begin to thing and pray about things and perhaps seek some Christian financial counsel. God bless. M has a gambling problem so when she does get the money she doesn't even pay all the bills and rent with it. She blows it at the casino or sends it to Indiana (she bought into that stupid email scam). I know Timothy 5:8 doesn't pertain to this situation but M insists this bible verse means that S should be giving her more and more. Can you please elaborate on your explanation and give scripture to support my argument?
